Eye Donation Awareness Programme

“The objective is to create mass awareness and to bridge the gap between demand and supply of cornea. This is to motivate people to come forward and pledge for eye donation. People should make eye donation as a family tradition ultimately transforming pledges into actual donation after death”
Facts about eye donation:

# Anyone can pledge for eye donation irrespective of age.
# Persons, who have undergone eye surgery or wear lenses can also donate eyes.
# Eyes of the deceased can be donated by family even if the person had not pledged for same.
# Corneas are to be collected within six hours of death.
# The process takes only 10 to 15 minutes, is simple and does not lead to any disfigurement.
# Eyes are used for corneal transplant within 72 hours.
# With special storage media eyes can be stored for a longer time before being transplanted.
# Donated corneas are transplanted following the waiting list, the procedure is confidential.
